Due to a ridiculous amount of automated spam, we've disabled the Con Message Board until we find a solution . . . but we enjoy hearing from you, so send us an email and we'll be in touch.

Any one ever surf Pismo beach. I got the longest ride of my life there back in 65. Palisades was also a good ride. The central coast rocks.

On Saturday, March 18, my 83 year-old father, Ellis Taylor, one of the original Santa Monica to Malibu crew, gave me his 1960, 9'8" Con, his last board. He surfed it for years. The serial number is 1321. Here is my question: it has a light blue color application, maybe a gel-coat (?) over the entire board except for the logo and serial number (which were masked off in order to reveal both.) Was the color original (from factory.) He says the board had the color when he bought it. Thanks. I'm curious to know what you know about the board.

My first job was at Con. I glued stringers into blanks and polish boards. Met a guy from the Islands named Kalani, who sanded boards. One afternoon he tould me I would like Hawaii and how friendly the folks were over there. I move to the Islands and stayed for 10 years on maui, surfing and learning how to build my own boards. On a trip back to Cali one summer I was introduced to Bruce Grant. He showed me how to use my planer properly and tuned me up. I'm stoked to see him reberthing Con Surfboards and would love to work with him again one day. I now live in Australia and still use everything he taught me. Thanks Bro.

My first board was a Con Ugly purchased at Bucks Surf Shop in Deerfield Beach, Fl. My dad drove us over, with my younger brother and a friend. It was in 1966 and I fell in love with surfing. I was 13 and surfed until about 1977-1978. Like John in Descanso, I had about 20 years off until my son wanted to learn to surf. I still had an old school short board, a 6'6" upon which we tried to learn/re-learn this great sport. The stoke came back with 20 years to make up and I haven't looked back. All three of my kids surf and without a doubt the coolest thing ever is to sit in the lineup with them and talk and watch 'em go. I do wish I had the Ugly back. I remember it as a great surfboard. I have emailed via your web page this morning with some questions on ordering a "new" Ugly. Thanks for the start back in '66. Mahalo and Merry Christmas, Don DeVoe

About three years ago I broke out my c. 1966 (ordered in 66 delievered 67), 10', Con Baja (serial #5278) and returned to surfing after a twenty year plus layoff. My son turning 13 and receiving a surfboard, prompted my return to the waves. Surfing has proved a great means of connection with my teenager. This past Saturday we had the pleasure of successfully paddling out into 6'+ waves at Ocean Beach, San Diego. The old board performed great and the old guy (me) hung in. I've found surfing is not quite like riding a bike. My mind knows what to do, but often I have a struggle getting my body to cooperate. This board has served me well throughout the 60's, 70's and early 80's, up and down the Baja coast with a few 'safaries' with my pals down the main land's west coast. I am now looking forward to new adventures with my boy and the Baja. By the way, the old board never fails to draw compliments. Thanks for producing a great all around board.
